Cake (2014) - Drama - The movie begins with a group of women in a chronic pain support group who want closure after the suicide of one of their members, Nina. Various ladies say how upset they are that Nina didn’t reach out for help and that she left her son motherless. Annette, the group leader, then asks Claire for her feelings. Disgusted with Nina, Claire responds with an insensitive detailing of the suicide that leaves the group repulsed.
Claire is driven home in a taxi. She has been lying down in the backseat, unable to sit upright due to her pain. When she arrives home she listens to voicemails – one is from Annette who asks her to find another support group, one that can help her with her anger issues. The second is from her husband from whom she has recently separated. He wants to come by and pick up the rest of his things but only when she isn’t there. Home alone, Claire gathers prescription bottles from a hiding spot in her house. She is almost out of pills. She tosses and turns at night in severe pain. Claire goes into her backyard and soaks in her pool to soothe herself. Later,she falls asleep in a deck chair. She is awakened the next morning by Silvana, her house-maid.
